About Hail Weston Parish Council
There are around 8,350 parish councils in England. Most were established in 1894, via an act of Parliament creating civil parishes separate from the older church Parishes. The Parish Council is the most local tier of government.
Hail Weston has a council of seven Parish Councillors, the councillors do not receive any payment for the work they do. Elections are held every four years; the last election was in May 2007. The next election is planned in 2011.
The Parish Council represents the interests of the local residents of Hail Weston, undertaking a variety of responsibilities including, Planning, Highways, Street Lighting, Playing Field, Litter, Allotments, Footpaths and Lobbying both Huntingdon District Council and Cambridgeshire County Council on behalf of the Parish on many issues.
Meetings of Hail Weston Parish Council are held in the Village Hall, at 8pm on the third Tuesday of each month. Meetings are open to the public and public participation is actively encouraged.
At the start of each meeting there is an open forum during which members of the public can bring any issue of concern to our attention. If a topic arises during the meeting on which a member of the public wishes to speak a process known as putting down standing orders is invoked and they will be allowed to express their views.
If you would like to raise an issue, please contact any Parish Councillor (for futher details click on this link).
Note there is no August or December meeting.
The agenda is posted three clear days before a meeting on the notice board which is located on the High Street opposite number 44.
The Parish Council is not related to the church and should not be confused with the Parochial Church Council, which is an entirely different body.
